What is a Chick-Lit novel?
Chick-lit novels are a type of fiction that is typically written by female authors, and centered around female protagonists. Some people say that the genre is marketed toward young women, but I think that this depends on the person.
These novels include topics like family dramas, workplace struggles, issues of appearance and body image, and romantic entanglements with men.
There are cases where these novels are focused on comedy and drama, just like in chick-flick movies. Usually, the protagonists are described as strong, independent, assertive women. From the beginning of the story itself, the protagonist is usually working towards achieving something, and when the book comes to an end, this one is always happy. Even though these books are a success in commercial terms, the chick lit genere faces citicism for being trashy.

Las novelas para chicas son un tipo de ficción típicamente escrita por autoras y centrada en protagonistas femeninas. Algunas personas dicen que el género está dirigido a mujeres jóvenes, pero creo que eso depende de la persona.
Estas novelas incluyen temas como dramas familiares, luchas laborales, cuestiones de apariencia e imagen corporal y enredos románticos con hombres.
Hay casos en los que estas novelas se centran en la comedia y el drama, como en las películas para chicas. Generalmente, la protagonista es descripta como mujer fuerte, independiente y asertiva. Desde el principio de la propia historia, la protagonista suele estar trabajando para conseguir algo, y cuando el libro llega a su fin, éste siempre será feliz. Aunque estos libros son un éxito en términos comerciales, el género Chic Lit o novela femenina se enfrenta a críticas por ser basura.
